Distance Education Degrees: Too Beneficial to Pass Up
Life has its checks and balances. When it comes to distance education degrees, you can expect many benefits to reap from this upgraded form of education, as well as downsides that may, at the worst, raise some minor concerns.
Too often we have heard of university online degrees being promoted and taken by many recent students, most notably foreign learners. Many of them strive to earn degrees in the most notable and prestigious of world universities. To their benefit, many of these institutions have set up an online course curriculum of some kind, offering distance education degrees to those who are ill-pressed by family, career, and distance concerns. When students cannot have the opportunity to learn their preferred courses in-campus, many of them unquestionably opt for online lessons.
The benefits that accompany online courses are numerous and well-justified. There are those that seek distance learning because he/she is too tied-up with family concerns. When you are at home studying, it’s a cinch to watch out for your kids or look out for grandparents instead of hiring someone to care for them.
There are those that want to easily shift from work mode to study mode. Distance education degrees allow you to live out that career professional/student lifestyle you have been dreaming.
There are those whose budgets and time are limited. A lot of students are simply underprivileged to migrate to a foreign country, settle down, and afford the sky-high fees of a prominent university. Availing of distance education degrees frees the average student of the costly foreign student lifestyle, permitting the student to focus on the course itself at the comfort of his/her computer.
Despite all of its glitzy advantages, getting a university online degree means sacrificing and compromising on some elements of a solid career on campus. An example of this comes from the communication department. Naturally, since all of the interaction is done online, a huge amount of personal contact in the form of non-verbal communication and face-to-face gesturing is lost. Communication intelligence is therefore compromised in the setting of online learning.
Aside from this, one of the most noteworthy disadvantages is the sometimes negative perception of private and public entities concerning distance education degrees. Many in the career sector, especially old school managers, still have not warmed-up to the idea of online learning, and then question the validity of certifications, diplomas, and honors garnered by distance learning students. To them, distance education degrees coming from online universities do not bear as much academic legitimacy as those of a regular college.
In spite of these downsides, distance education degrees enable students to attain their dreams through innovative education — all from their own home.
